Immigration law

German citizenship offers a wide range of advantages in everyday life and professional settings. The German passport is among the most valuable passports worldwide and, in many cases, allows visa-free or facilitated travel. In addition, German citizenship confers EU citizenship and the related rights - especially freedom of movement and easier opportunities to live, work, and settle in other EU member states.

For foreign nationals who have lived in Germany for many years, naturalization may be an option. Whether naturalization is possible depends on the individual circumstances and the documentation that must be submitted. Depending on the specific situation, particularly where dual nationality or international ties are involved, a careful review of the applicable requirements and the necessary documents is essential.

As a dual citizen with roots in more than one country, I am familiar from personal experience with both the opportunities and the potential pitfalls of dual nationality. As an attorney, it is a personal priority for me to guide people through this process with clarity, empathy, and legal certainty.

The naturalization process is supported through a structured legal approach: from reviewing eligibility and assembling the required evidence to preparing and filing the application. This may also include handling communication with the competent authorities, responding to requests for additional information, and providing support in the event of delays or legal disputes. In addition, clients are kept informed about current developments and legislative changes in nationality law.

Henschel Law assists you in, among other things, the following areas:

  • Naturalization & dual citizenship (Germany): I assess eligibility, guide the application, and advise on multiple nationality in light of the June 27, 2024 reform.

  • Work & long-term residence in Germany (incl. EU Blue Card): I help select the right residence title and manage the process through issuance—including options for a settlement permit.

  • Family reunification (Germany): I advise on requirements, evidence, and timelines, and coordinate the reunification of spouses, children, and parents.

  • Permanent residence (Germany): I evaluate your eligibility for a settlement permit and prepare the application - for example, with shortened timelines for EU Blue Card holders.
